Cosmetic Dentist and Facial Spa in Wall
Restorative Dentistry is the repair or replacement of teeth allowing you to function again and maintain esthetics and preserve what is currently there. At Sage Dental in Wall, NJ, Dr. Avi Israeli is an experienced restorative dentist who offers a wide variety of options to his patients who have had decay, trauma or loss of teeth over time.
We understand how missing a tooth or having a broken tooth, especially in the smile zone, can affect not only your appearance, but also your self-confidence and speech as well as function. Whether your teeth are worn down from clenching or grinding or cracked from having too large of a filing placed into them, here are some of the services we offer to help our patients in the Monmouth County area.
Conservative Porcelain Onlays or Inlays
If you are having a large filling replaced, one option is a composite filling. While this works fine when you have ¾ of the remaining tooth structure left, it may not be the best option when you are missing a cusp or have half the tooth missing. Porcelain onlays replace an entire cusp and can handle the chewing forces of one of the corners of the tooth. A porcelain inlay will be a large restoration that goes in-between teeth but doesn’t include the entire cusp. It is a little more conservative. In the past, these were often done with gold, but now we have the CEREC® technology, we can actually complete them in a single visit with a solid piece of porcelain.
Imagine having a material that is 98% as strong as your own natural tooth bonded directly into your tooth. That is not only a strong restoration but one that will last for many years, while protecting the tooth itself.
With the CEREC®, we digitally scan the missing area of your tooth and virtually design using CAD/CAM technology a replacement part that fits perfectly. This amazing technology has evolved over the past 30 years and we are proud to offer it at our practice.
Composite resin fillings are an esthetic option for amalgam (silver-mercury fillings) or gold that have been used in dentistry for the past 100 years. The newer bonded fillings are much more esthetic as well as conservative.
Crowns and Bridges
Whenever a tooth has decay that weakens a tooth and a filling will not support a chewing pressure, we consider placing a “cap” or a crown over the tooth. This holds both sides of the tooth together and rebuilds a tooth to full size. When one or more teeth are missing, then a 3 or more-unit bridge can be placed filling in the gap with a prosthetic tooth. This is the conventional method of replacing teeth. Currently, we offer dental implants as a great conservative option that doesn’t affect the adjacent teeth and is longer lasting.
When a patient loses all their teeth in an arch, typical treatment is to take an impression and make a denture. This is a resin-based material that sits on the gums and the ridge from where the teeth were and either porcelain or plastic teeth are used to mimic the missing teeth allowing for chewing and speech and esthetics to be restored.
