Pediatrics in the branch of dentistry that involves treating the oral health of children from infants to teenage years. While all dentists are trained to treat children during dental school, some dentists specialize in treating more complicated cases involving orthodontic, rampant cavities or patient management issues.
For the most part, most children can be treated in a general dental practice. Children start to get their baby teeth around six months old. We encourage bringing children in for “well-baby” visits so they have a “simple” visit when they come in. This will help limit an anxiety and concern for future visits as they get older.
At Sage Dental and Spa in Wall, New Jersey, Dr. Avi Israeli likes to see children early and help them begin a lifetime of healthy teeth with good dental habits. Our team wants to give your child a solid foundation by bringing them for an exam and cleaning twice each year. Encourage your child to listen to the dental team during their visit. Work with your child at home to improve their dental hygiene routine.
Dr. Israeli offers routine pediatric dental visits to ensure your child’s oral health, beginning at age 3. During each visit, we will gently clean your child’s teeth and remove any plaque or tartar. We will carefully examine their mouth and teeth for any potential issues. Regular cleanings and exams can help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues.
Tooth decay has become the most common chronic childhood illness in the United States. Our office staff will teach you and your child how to properly brush and floss their teeth as they grow. We will discuss dental hygiene habits and healthy food choices. We will teach your child to be our partner in keeping their mouth and teeth healthy.
We may recommend treating your child’s teeth with fluoride. This mineral has been shown to help strengthen the tooth enamel, making teeth more resistant to decay. Fluoride may be applied in-office via a “paint-on” varnish, via a tray with gel in it, or using certain over-the-counter toothpastes and mouth rinses.
In some cases, we may recommend the use of dental sealants. Sealants are a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth – mostly the molars. Recent studies have found that sealants can be highly effective in preventing tooth decay.Help your child have a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
